Snow Leopard 10.6 Compatibility with EndNote^® X3

Thomson Reuters is currently working on completing testing with the final version of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Any news can be found here: http://www.endnote.com/enosx.asp. Thomson Reuters will continue to update this page with any issues found. Note that all Leopard compatibility notes also apply to 10.6 Snow Leopard.

Word 2008 and Printing:

Thomson Reuters has identified an issue where printing from Word 2008 and then quitting Word with the EndNote tools loaded causes Word to crash. As the crash happens as Word is closing after all data has been saved, we do not anticipate any data loss due to this issue.

To avoid this crash, you can do the following after printing before quitting Word:

• Go to the "Tools" menu, choose "Templates and Add-ins..."
• Uncheck "EndNote CWYW Commands.dot" and "EndNote CWYW Word 2008.bundle."
• Quit Word. When you restart, the EndNote tools should load again.

Pages, multi-byte, and Snow Leopard issue:

Apple has released an upgrade to Pages '09, included in the iWork 9.0.3 update that addresses compatibility issues users of 10.6 and EndNote and Pages had experienced. This update should be installed from the Apple menu, Software Updates before working with EndNote, Pages and 10.6. It is also available here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL833. The upgrade fixes an issue with saving documents with EndNote citations containing multi-byte characters when using Mac OS 10.6. Note: This fix may not correct all documents affected by this issue using Pages prior to the patch. You may need to restore from a backup copy of those documents if that is the case.

American Psychological Associtation (APA) 6th Edition Output Style Update for EndNote

The EndNote APA 6th Style is now available. The updated style is dependent on an accompanying change to the reference type matrix. Both files are provided in the download package along with installation instructions.

If you are citing a reference type that is not included in EndNote, you should consult the APA manual. You may need to add or modify your own reference types to be compatible with the updated reference type matrix provided in the download package. See APA 6th Reference Types for details.

What is MathDaisy?

This command saves the document as a DAISY Digital Talking Book ready to be used in an eBook reader. MathDaisy enhances the Word-to-DAISY conversion process, converting the equations in the document to MathML as required by the DAISY format.

Reference Manager 12 Basic Manuel

The possibilities of Reference Manager 12 are endless, and that can be quite confusing sometimes. Still there is a considerable amount of tools available to familiarize yourself with Reference Manager. First of all there’s the Getting Started Guide that is provided with the software, it offers exercises to get acquainted with the software. You can use the ‘Sample’ database that comes with Reference Manager, to do these exercises. In the Reference Manager installation folder you will also find the User’s Guide. What happened with the output styles in EndNote X3?

Those who installed EndNote X3 might have noticed that there are suddenly a lot less output styles, to be precise; 3.600 less than the promised 3.700. What happened? To improve the installation of EndNote X3, Thomson Reuters has decided to only put the 100 most popular styles in the styles folder. This also results in a faster start up time. To download the other styles go to: Edit>Output Styles>Open Style Manager. Then click on the “Get More On the Web” button, this brings you to the EndNote Output Styles webpage; here you can download the desired output styles. Do you want to download the complete set of output styles? Click the link at the top: “version 8 and up”, instructions are in the same paragraph.

KB supports Endnote users

Recently the KB, the national library of the Netherlands, has started to offer her users the possibility to download titles from the Online Publieks Catalogus (OPC) in Endnote format. When users have found a title in the OPC, they can click “bewaren” (=safe). They will then get to choose between the options: volledige titel (=full title), korte title (=short title), or EndNote. Subsequently the set can be sent by e-mail, and can be read in EndNote on one’s own pc or laptop.
